'Earth Patterns' a 2D, 3D exhibtion

Two sculptors. Three painters. They will show as a collective for the first time with their show 'Earth Patterns' at the Stoke Newington Library Gallery from February 19th to 25th.

Lesley John
Lesley started working in clay twenty five years ago, mostly throwing pots. In 2002 she joined the Kingsway Westminster class in Holmes Road and began hand-building sculptures in human and animal forms. Lesley builds her sculptures quickly, using just her fingers until the last possible moment, and using her inward eye rater than models or photos. She uses a variety of glazes, expermenting with different finishes.

David Stein
Born in Israel, David started painting 30 years ago, during which time he has striven to draw as precisely as possible "while dancing with spilled colours". Nostalgia for his homeland finds expression in his landscapoes depicting the mountains of Eilat and the desert. David came to live in Derbyshire in the spring of 2003 and constanly marvels at the beauty of the local coutnryside which he endeavours to capture in his paintings.

Gerda Baron

Gerda has worked in a range of media and forms since she first began modelling in the studio of a London sculptress. Gerda later progressed to working in stone and then ceramics, fostered by the excellent pottery and ceramic department at KIngsway Westminster College. Now in her tenth decade, Gerda has been inspired by he freedom that clay offers, and she intends to continue working as long as possible.

Helen Reardon
Helen's work as a painter reflects her passion for colour and pattern, and draws inspiration from the decoration and architecture of number of different cultures, as well as from the natural environment. As a printmaker, she has shown smaller work through galleries in and around London, and has taken part in a number of group and open shows, but this the first exhibition of her larger, more recent paintings.

Tim Bradford
Tim's paintings are influenced by extra strong lager, Venezuelan folk art, Irish beer mats, Egyptian funerary portraits, Lincolnshire skies and people he sees on the tube. Tim works slowly in acrylics, quickly in watercolours. He is also a cartoonist for When Saturday Comes and The Guardian and as written two heavily illustrated travel books.
